Assoc. Prof. SERKAN BULUT

Serkan Bulut graduated from the Department of Journalism at Istanbul University’s Faculty of Communication in 2011. He completed his MA and PhD in Journalism at the Institute of Social Sciences, Istanbul University. Between 2013 and 2018, he worked as a Research Assistant at Istanbul University’s Faculty of Communication, Department of Journalism. From March to July 2018, he conducted his doctoral dissertation research at the Faculty of Philology, University of Wroclaw, Poland. In 2018, he joined Çukurova University’s Faculty of Communication, Department of Journalism.

In addition to his academic career, Dr. Bulut briefly worked as a reporter at the Habertürk TV news center and as an economics reporter for the online news platform Gazeteport. He also served as the editorial manager of İletim newspaper and Ajans Üniversite news agency, the official publications of Istanbul University, for four years. In 2017, he received the Coordination Award at the 9th International TRT Documentary Awards. In 2013, he participated in an intensive Erasmus project at Leeds Beckett University, UK, with a two-week scholarship. He presented his first paper in 2015 at the 13th International Symposium on Communication in the Millennium in East Stroudsburg, USA. He was also invited as a photographer to an event at the University of Bucharest, where he contributed to activities for one week.

Dr. Bulut was awarded the title of Associate Professor in 2021 and currently serves at Çukurova University. As a recipient of the TÜBİTAK 2219 Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, he conducted a research project on artificial intelligence in news media at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in Brussels, Belgium. He is a member of the Centre for Literature and Intermediality (CLIC) research group at VUB.

He is the author of the book SEO in Digital News Media and a co-editor of the English translations of Old News New Media and Key Concepts in Journalism Studies. His research interests include digital media and journalism, emerging technologies in news media, Google journalism (SEO), journalism and AI, generative AI, and youth.
