Prof. OĞUZHAN YAVUZ

I was born in Ankara, Turkiye, in 1975. I graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ankara University, Turkiye, in 1997. I started my PhD in 1998 at the Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology, Institute of Health Sciences, Ankara University. I finished my PhD in 2003 with my thesis entitled "The investigations on the active ingredients and biological efficiencies of some public health pesticide preparations which are commercially registered in Turkey". 

I worked as a Technical officer and Section Chief at the General Directorate of Primary Health Care, Ministry of Health of Turkıye, Ankara, between 1997 and 2003. My responsibilities were the development of registration and market control process of biocidal products, toxicological evaluation of chemical consumer products (household pesticides, room perfumes, swimming pool sterilization, etc.), and implementation of EU Directive 98/8 EC (the Biocides Directive) to Turkish Legislation. 

I started my academic career as an assistant professor at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ondokuz Mayis University, Samsun, Turkiye, in November 2003. I have worked at the Ondokuz Mayis University for about 19 years. I gained the Associate Professor title in 2012 and attended the Full Professor position in 2020. My main activities and research topics have been teaching veterinary pharmacology and toxicology at undergraduate and PhD levels, teaching the usage and safety of nanomaterials at MSc and PhD levels, and research activities on pharmacology, toxicology, nano drug delivery systems, and risk assessment. 

I worked at the European Union Reference Laboratory for Food Contact Materials, Institute for Health and Consumer Protection, European Union Joint Research Center, Ispra, Italy, as a TUBITAK trainee for eight months between October 1, 2011, and May 31, 2012, and as a seconded national expert for two years between 2013 and 2015. My responsibilities were the investigation and development of validated methods for primary aromatic amines in paper and board food contact materials, support to EURL mandate (AA DG SANCO), performing experimental studies towards Project 2.1 of the Action CAT 15014, contribution to ILC formaldehyde and melamine, operate equipment / perform measurements (GC, HPLC, UV-VIS, UHPLC-MS-MS), collect, analyze, store and format data and contribute to producing peer-reviewed scientific publications or equivalent outputs (such as technical reports, policy reports, review papers) to contribute to the JRC objective to excel as scientific organization.

I have been working as a professor (full) at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Ceyhan Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cukurova University, Adana, Turkiye, since June 2022.

My research experiences are mainly focused on analytical pharmacology and toxicology, chromatography (GC, HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS-MS), other analytical methods (UV spectrometry, ELISA), analysis of veterinary drugs and other chemical residues in foods, persistent organic pollutants, safety of nanomaterials, risk assessment of biocides and environmental chemicals, in vivo toxicity studies.
