Özet

Objective: Acne vulgaris is a common chronic inflammatory disease all over the world and affects people both physically and psychologically. Various antibiotics and retinoic acid derivatives are used in its treatment. The aim of the study is to examine retinoic acid derivatives, which are the basic building blocks of the treatment of this disease, and current studies aimed at reducing the side effects of these derivatives. Result and Discussion: Retinoids and antibiotics are used as complementary agents in the treatment of acne vulgaris. While retinoids provide a long-term solution, antibiotics are used for short periods of time due to the development of resistance. Isotretinoin, the only systemically used retinoic acid derivative, is the only derivative that permanently affects the course of the disease in severe and resistant acne. Although the modifications made to improve these derivatives change the activity and selectivity, some side effects appear to persist. Therefore, optimising formulations that will minimise these side effects will increase the success of acne treatment.
