Abstract

In this article we report Echinococcus granulosus sheep strain (G1) infection in a cross breed mountain goat in Antalya province of Turkey. Brain, liver, spleen and lungs of dead goat were sent to our laboratory. As a result of morphological examination we diagnose hydatid cysts on the lungs. For further investigation, we made DNA extraction from the cyst material and amplified the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunite 1 (mt-CO1) gene region by PCR. After the amplification, sequence analysis of mt-CO1 gene was carried out. As a result of our examination, we saw that obtained sequence data was matching to the common sheep strain (G1). This is the first report of an occurence and molecular characterization of E. granulosus sheep (G1) strain in a crossbreed mountain goat in Antalya province of Turkey.
