Urban green spaces and water surfaces act as natural temperature regulators in cities. In this context, this study aims to analyse the spatial distribution of urban green areas and water resources and examine the changes in land surface temperature (LST) within the borders of Eskişehir province, Türkiye, between 2003 and 2024. The study was carried out in two stages. First, NDVI and NDWI analyses were used to detect green and water areas. The results revealed improvement in vegetation health between 2003 and 2023 and a significant increase in water surfaces between 2003 and 2015 in the province. In the second stage, LST changes in settlement areas were examined. The results showed an increase in LST values in 2003 and 2015 and a significant expansion in areas with high temperature ranges above 30 °C in 2023. According to the LST difference maps, the study area experienced increases of 0–5 °C between 2003 and 2023, whereas some regions were exposed to extreme temperature increases. In 2008 and 2009, LST decreases were more pronounced in areas with large parks such as Sazova Park and Kentpark. In general, the findings showed that green transformation projects reduced LST values between 2003 and 2015, but this situation became more stable after 2015.
