One of the key
objectives of the biofuels world is to reduce the dependence on food resources
while increasing the use of new types of raw materials within advanced biofuels
technologies. The most important biofuels that are now widely and commercially
used in many countries are biodiesel and bioethanol. Bioethanol is a biofuel
that can be produced by fermentation of sugary and starchy plants or by acidic
hydrolysis of cellulosic sources. As a result, the use of biomass as raw
material for biofuels should not create an alternate consumption area for human
and animal food. On the other hand, indirect and direct energy consumption for
the production of biomass, which will be used as biofuel raw materials, is also
very important. Consumption of fossil fuels and other resources and damage to
the environment must also be taken into account in biomass production, which
will be used as raw materials for biofuels. This issue was the main basis for
this work. Therefore, in this study, it is aimed to evaluate fossil fuel
consumption and its associated CO2 emissions to cultivate sugar beet
used as a biofuel raw material.
