Abstract

In this paper, an investigation into the lubrication aspect of thrust bearings is presented by describing a numerical method in which Reynolds' equation was solved in finite difference form. The theoretical model developed is capable of calculating the pressure distribution in the lubricating fluid film and the load-carrying capacity as a separating force. Certain assumptions were made to simplify the analysis. Sample runs were made to test the validity of the solution.
