In this case report, we aimed to evaluate the histopathological features of the youngest unilateral conjunctivochalasis case reported in
the literature and to present our treatment approach. A twenty-three year old female patient who did not have any medical history pre-
sented with complaints of watery eyes and foreign body sensation in the left eye. In ocular examination conjunctivochalasis was pres-
ent in the lower and temporal region of the left eye. The patient's symptoms did not regress after lubricant treatment. Loose conjuncti-
val tissue was excised from the patient’s left eye and conjunctival defect was closed with amniotic membrane. Light microscopic exam-
ination of the conjunctiva revealed increased inflammatory cell, lymphatic ectasia, goblet cell loss, and elastic fiber destruction.
Electron microscopic examination revealed a decrease in intracellular connections between epithelial cells and an increase in distance
between cells. All the symptoms and signs disappeared and the tear meniscus completely resolved in the first month postoperatively. In
our case, the pathological changes observed in the conjunctival tissue suggest that inflammatory and mechanical effects may play a role
in the development of conjunctivochalasis.
