Smartphone addiction and psychological wellbeing among adolescents: the multiple mediating roles of academic procrastination and school burnout

Özet

Smartphone addiction adversely affects adolescent psychological wellbeing. However, little is known about the role of academic procrastination and school burnout in this relationship. The main objective of the current study was to examine the associations between smartphone addiction and psychological wellbeing, a multiple mediation analysis that included academic procrastination and school burnout. The participants consisted of 409 adolescents whose ages ranged between 13 and 19 years (Mage = 16.024, SD = 1.674). Analyses revealed the serial mediating role of academic procrastination and school burnout between smartphone addiction and psychological wellbeing was accepted. Overall, these results suggested that the smartphone addiction is a risk factor for adolescents’ psychological wellbeing and that academic procrastination and school burnout also increase this risk.
