The Effect of Literature Circles on Reading Comprehension and Critical Reading Skills

comprehension and critical reading skills. This research was carried out with 51 fourth grade students, studying in

primary school in Dörtyol district of Hatay province in the second term of the 2021-2022 academic year. “Reading

Comprehension Test” developed by Karabay and Kuşdemir (2009) and “Critical Reading Pack” developed by

Okur (2019) were used as data collection tools for the studying quasi-experimental desing with pretest-posttest

control group. In order to interpret the quantitative data obtained from the “Semi-Srructured Interview Form” and

“Researcher’s Diary” were used. In the study, covariance analysis was performed on quantitative data and the

significance level of the analysis found to be p<.05. In the study, when the present total scores obtained from the

reading comrehension test and critical reading pack were controlled. It was determined that there was a significant

difference between the experimental and controlled groups in terms of posttest total scores. As a results of the

analysis of semi-structured interview forms and researcher journals, it was seen that the students expressed positive

opinions obout the practice.
