Smart and Sustainable Gig Economy in the Industrial 5.0 Era: Engineering and Management Aspects, CRC, Ghent, Belgium , ss.277-288, 2026
Changing technology trends affect every field, as well as working life. The gig economy, one of the concepts that emerged at this point, refers to the labor market consisting of part-time employees, freelancers, or independent contractors, instead of full-time employees, with increasing technology. This transformation naturally requires that managerial efforts also take the employee market into consideration. In this study, optimization problems encountered in the gig economy are classified and suggestions for future studies in the literature are presented. An exemplary mathematical model is proposed for the case analysis. The model focuses on a workforce planning problem in which the special conditions in the gig economy are revealed. The model was solved using exact methods.
