This study was
conducted to reveal the relationship between the democratic attitude levels and
justice tendencies of fourth grade primary school students. Relational survey
method, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the study. The
population of the study is the students attending the fourth grade in the central
district of Osmaniye province in the 2023-2024 academic year. The sample
consists of 374 (188 female, 186 male) students studying in 6 primary schools
determined by cluster sampling method. Democratic Attitude Scale for 3rd and
4th Grades, Fairness Tendency Scale and Personal Information Form were used in
the study. The Fairness Tendencies Scale consists of one dimension and the
Democratic Attitude Scale consists of three sub-dimensions: “Democratic
participation, Respect and Tolerance, Equality”. The data obtained from the
research were analyzed with SPSS 22 package program. According to the findings,
students' democratic attitude levels and fairness tendency levels are at high
levels. While students' tendency to be fair differed significantly according to
gender and family income status, it was concluded that there was no significant
difference according to mother and father education status. Accordingly,
female students are more fair than male students, and middle-income students
are more fair than high-income students. There is a significant difference in
the respect tolerance sub-dimension of the democratic attitudes scale according
to gender. This difference is in favor of female students. While there was no
significant difference according to family income status, a significant
difference was calculated in the total scale and all sub-dimensions in the
mother's education level. Accordingly, students whose mothers have higher
education are more democratic than those with basic education. In the case of
father's education level, there is a significant differentiation between the
groups in the total scale and democratic participation sub-dimension.
Accordingly, students whose fathers have higher education level are more
democratic than those who have basic education level. It was concluded that
there was a moderate relationship between students' democratic attitudes and
their tendency to be fair in the total scale and the sub-dimensions of respect
and tolerance, and a weak relationship in the sub-dimensions of democratic
participation and equality.
