Özet
Digital transformation in the 21st century has positioned online courses as a milestone in formal digital learning for the sustainability of education. In English language teacher edu-cation (ELTE), sustainability requires high-quality online courses with structured, intentional, and formal digital learn-ing guided by teacher educators in online settings. However, adopting online courses in ELTE without sufficient structured preparation may create pedagogical challenges, such as inte-grating the four core language skills, listening, speaking, read-ing, and writing, within constrained virtual environments. This qualitative study therefore investigated the views and perceptions of English as a foreign language (EFL) teacher ed-ucators on the integration of the four language skills in online courses compared to face-to-face education. The data for this qualitative study were collected from 18 EFL teacher educa-tors at various universities via an online survey. The findings indicated that participants believed integrating the four lan-guage skills was necessary and important in both online and face-to-face courses. Furthermore, the results highlighted that some participants could use the same strategies to inte-grate the four language skills in both modalities, while others noted that the integration of the four language skills was more difficult and challenging to implement in online courses. The current study offered practical implications to help the related agents in educational contexts develop efficient, structured strategies for the high-quality integration of the four language skills in online courses, ensuring the sustaina-bility of ELTE.
