PROGRESS IN ORGANIC COATINGS, cilt.49, sa.2, ss.153-159, 2004 (SCI-Expanded)
In this study the electrochemical synthesis of polypyrrole (PPy) was achieved on copper and brass electrodes by using the cyclic voltammetry technique from 0.3 M oxalic acid + 0.1 M pyrrole solution and the electroactivity of these modified electrodes were investigated using the hydroquinone (HQ)/quinone (Q) couple reaction in 0.5 M H2SO4 solution. The activation energy values (E-a), temperature coefficients ((deltaE/deltaT)(p)), the rate constant (k) and reaction order values (n), overpotential values (eta) for the oxidation and the reduction processes were calculated. It was found that the copper/PPy and brass/PPy electrodes have very good electrocatalytic efficiency which was comparable to uncoated Pt electrodes and the strongly adherent, homogenous and highly conductive nature of the coating was kept for a long time. It could be said that either the copper/PPy or brass/PPy electrodes could easily replace the Pt electrode for electrocatalysis in many applications. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
