Özet

Teachers’ and mothers’ awareness and interventions on aggression determine the preschool children’s internalization of messages about aggressive behaviors. This study explored the views and intervention strategies of preschool teachers and mothers on physical and relational aggression. Thirty nine teachers and fifty four mothers from 10 randomly selected public preschools completed open-ended questions related to two short stories. Teachers and mothers use more various statements to identify the relational aggression than physical aggression. On the other hand, they prefer strict intervention strategies for physically aggressive behavior whereas flexible intervention strategies were more preferable for relationally aggressive act. Interpretation of these findings showed that preschool teachers and mothers identify physically aggressive behavior more easily than relationally aggressive behavior. Moreover, their intervention strategies are sensitive to the form of aggression acted by children.
