Özet

Amaç: Bu ca̧ lısm̧ anın amacı, koronavirüs hastalıı-2019 [coronavirus di- sease-2019 (COVID-19)] nedeniyle uzaktan eğitime geçmiş Çukurova Üniversi- tesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi örencilerinin pandemi sürecinde 4. sınıfta aldıkları endodonti ve restoratif diş tedavisi klinik eitimlerinin, 5. sınıf klinik staj ei- timlerine katkı düzeylerinin deerlendirilmesidir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Kesit- sel olan bu çalımaya, Çukurova Üniversitesi Diş Hekimlii Fakültesinde eitim gören endodonti ve restoratif diş tedavisi klinik staj eitimini tamamlamış son sınıf örencileri dâhil edilmitir. Veriler, anket formu aracılııyla toplanmıtır. Verilerin istatistiksel analizi için SPSS 25.0 programı (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, ABD) kullanıldı. Örencilerin uzaktan eitimden etkilenme düzeylerini deer- lendiren sorulara verilen yanıtlar ile demografik özellikler arasındaki ilikiyi de- erlendirmek için Pearson ki-kare/Fisher’s exact testleri kullanıldı. Anlamlılık düzeyi p<0,05 olarak belirlendi. Bulgular: Ankete, 45’i kadın, 34’ü erkek olmak üzere toplam 79 gönüllü örenci katılmıtır. Örencilerin yaş ortalaması 23,55’tir. Örenciler pandemi sürecinde aldıkları endodonti ve restoratif diş tedavisi klinik eitimlerinin, 5. sınıf stajyerliklerinde kanal tedavisi ve dolgu yaparken zorlan- malarına (%73) ve stres yaamalarına (%86) engel olmadıını, 4. sınıfta uzaktan eitimle katıldıkları endodonti ve restoratif diş tedavisi teorik eitimleri sonra- sında 5. sınıf klinik eitimlerinde el becerilerinin gerilediini (%53) bildirmi- lerdir. Örenciler, COVID-19 bulaş riski nedeniyle her iki klinik staj eitiminde de zorlandıklarını (%68,4) ifade etmilerdir. Sonuç: Pandemi artlarındaki iyi- leme ve aılama programları, örencilerin uygun kiisel koruyucu ekipmanlar kullanarak hastalar üzerinde çeitli diş hekimlii prosedürlerini güvenli bir e- kilde uygulamasına izin vermesine ramen pandemi döneminde yaanan bu olum- suzluklar örencilerin klinik yeterliliklerinin istenen seviyede olmamasına ve diş hekimlii pratiinin gerekliliklerini yerine getirmede zorluk yaamalarına neden olmutur.

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the contribution levels of the endodontic and restorative dentistry clinical trainings in the 4th grade of Çukurova University Faculty of Dentistry students, who were transferred to distance education due to coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19), to their 5th grade clinical internship training. Material and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, senior students who completed their clinical internship training in en- dodontics and restorative dentistry at Çukurova University Faculty of Dentistry were included. Data were collected through a questionnaire. SPSS 25.0 program (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA) was used for statistical analysis of the data. Pear- son’s chi-square/Fisher’s exact tests were used to evaluate the relationship be- tween the answers given to the questions evaluating the level of students’ exposure to distance education and demographic characteristics. Significance level was determined as p<0.05. Results: A total of 79 volunteer students, 45 fe- male and 34 male, participated in the survey. The average age of the students is 23.55. Students reported that the clinical training in endodontics and restorative dental treatment they received during the pandemic did not prevent them from experiencing difficulties (73%) and stress (86%) while performing root canal treatment and cavity filling in their 5th grade internships, and that their hand skills (53%) decreased in their 5th grade clinical training after the endodontic and restorative dental treatment theoretical training they attended in the 4th grade with distance education. Students stated that they had difficulties in both clinical in- ternship trainings (68.4%) due to the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Conclu- sion: Although the recovery and vaccination programs in the pandemic conditions allowed the students to safely apply various dental procedures on patients using appropriate personal protective equipment, these negativities experienced during the pandemic period caused the students to have difficulties in fulfilling the re- quirements of dental practice.
