Abstract

This paper is a report of an investigation of the flow in wide-angle screened diffusers. Tests were undertaken using wire-gauze as well as perforated plate screens in pyramidal diffusers of area ratio of 10 and included angles of 45 degrees and 60 degrees, respectively. The main areas of experimentation considered here are measurements of the wall static pressure distribution and overall pressure recovery characteristics for a range of screen porosities and screen locations. The main results obtained for these diffusers are for the magnitude of the pressure recovery, and its dependence on the geometry of the screens, the length ratio and the included angle of the diffusers, The location of the screens also has an important effect on the velocity distribution, pressure distribution and the pressure recovery.
