This study explores the potential of
nepheline syenites as an alternative raw material in Turkey, focusing on their
applications in the glass, ceramic, and aluminum industries. Nepheline, a
mineral belonging to the feldspathoid group, is a critical component for these
industries due to its energy efficiency and cost advantages. The nepheline syenite
reserves in the Kırşehir Massif, which contain 20-30% nepheline, are of
particular interest due to their high industrial potential. Furthermore, in
tropical and subtropical climates, the lateritic ore formation process plays a
significant role in enriching alumina, the key component for aluminum
production. The potential use of nepheline syenites as an alternative to
traditional bauxite deposits for aluminum production offers both economic and
environmental benefits. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the
mineralogical and petrographic properties of nepheline, the geological
structure of the Kırşehir Massif, reserve evaluation, and the industrial
applications of nepheline-bearing syenites, highlighting their significant
contribution to sustainable resource use in the industry.
