Özet

This study examines the Regional Management Model in Turkish cinema from 1950 to 1980, focusing on the Adana Management Region, encompassing 20 Eastern Mediterranean and Eastern Anatolia cities. The Adana Management Region, with over 600 cinema venues and 120 film production and distribution companies, exemplifies this model’s informal yet systematic structure. In response to the lack of state support, this model relied on regional networks of producers, distributors, venue owners, and the pivotal role of associations like the Adana Filmmakers Association. These networks facilitated film production, distribution, and exhibition, reflecting audience preferences and ensuring diversity. Archival materials from associations, local newspapers, and oral histories form the methodological basis of this research. The study also highlights the model’s economic sustainability through prepayment systems and its role in shaping Turkey’s national cinema when state support was minimal, focusing primarily on censorship and taxation until the 1990s.
