Abstract

This paper aimed to use the University of California (UC) Davis forecast model for predicting powdery mildew infection (Erysiphe necator Schw.) for the first time and reduce pesticide sprayings on the Sultan seedless vineyards in the Aegean region located in west Turkey. The study was carried out in the Vitis vinifera L. cv Sultan a vineyard from 2014 to 2016 during the vegetative period. The UC Davis model could not indicate the control and accuracy required for the forecast ascospore for the Aegean region, but it provided reasonable control in predicting conidial infection. The diseases of incidences (DI) in clusters and leaves for each application were measured after the veraison period. After three years of trial in conidial infection estimations, successful results were obtained as 21.90% and 8.30% for leaf and cluster DI. The study's second aim was to evaluate the correlation between the DI of model applications and the quality characteristics. Control and conidial infection risk model DI were strongly positively correlated, associated with a water-soluble dry matte (WSDM) (r>0.92, P <= 0.05 over the years). This study demonstrated that the conidial infections-risk assessment model is more suitable for disease control under the conditions of the Aegean region but must be modified by regional temperatures.
