The global population has
been aging more rapidly in recent decades. As a result, the principles of
inclusivity have become more important, especially more and more in cities.
Therefore, the need for cities and tourism destinations that meet the needs of
seniors and people with disabilities is increasing. This study aims to
investigate accessible and inclusive tourism ideas in global cities with
extreme human traffic, specifically focusing on London. As one of the most
visited cities in the world, London offers many cultural, historical, and
modern tourist attractions. As an exploratory study, the research helps to
understand what strategies London has developed and implemented to become more
accessible and inclusive, and how it ensures that all visitors, regardless of
age or physical ability, enjoy a satisfying travel experience. The study
examines various aspects, including accessible transportation, information,
accommodation, food and beverage, visitor attractions, events, public spaces
and technologies used. Furthermore, it addresses best practices and challenges
in creating an inclusive tourism environment. The findings highlight that
London’s efforts to increase physical accessibility, provide comprehensive
visitor information and provide special services contribute to its reputation
as an inclusive destination. The study also provides recommendations for other
cities that aim to increase tourism accessibility and inclusiveness in general.
Using London as a case, this research contributes to the field of tourism and
urban development by showcasing the city’s initiatives and showing what can be
done about sustainable tourism development and the importance of creating
destinations that are inclusive of all.
