The study was carried out at the experimental areas of Pozanti Agricultural Research and Application Center in Adana between the years of 2011 and 2012. Francoise and Early Maycrest peach cultivars and Early Silver, Superred nectarine cultivars which are ten years old and grafted on GF-677 rootstock were used as experimental plants. Aim of the study was to reduce/prohibit multiple pistil formation problems usually appeared in early peach and nectarine cultivars grown in subtropical regions. Therefore, to reduce the abnormal temperature seen during bud differentiation period was targeted using black net with 55% of light transmission as a Shading system, Kaolin 3+3% and combination of kaolin and shading system. Measurements of the temperature simultaneously on leaves and buds, combination with kaolin and shading system with 55% of light transmission application resulted 7.05oC reduction in buds. Kaolin aplication and shading system decreased temperature 5.450C and 1.380C, respectively. As a result of reduction in temperature, combination of kaolin and shading system was the best application on decreasing multiple pistil formation about 66.85% and kaolin application follows with 52.60% reduction rate. In point of dormancy, pomology and phenology of cultivars were not affected negatively by applications. At the end of the study, It is determined that high yield gained per unit area whereby applications significantly reduced multiple fruit formation rate. |
