Abstract – Although choosing a small-scale living space is a way of life for many individuals, today it has become a
necessity as a result of the pandemic and natural disasters. While the dimensions of the space are determined depending on the
environment, actions, and action areas in the architectural mass, user comfort is another factor that shapes the design. The
responsiveness to the different needs of various users is not only about the dimensions of the space but also about its
flexibility, functionality and portability. The subject of this study is the criteria for the shaping of small-scale living spaces
according to user needs in terms of functionality and environment. The scope of the study is limited to the concept of scale,
small-scale living spaces, and the investigation of the quantitative and qualitative character of these spaces. The sample spaces
selected in line with this scope were analyzed. The aim of the study is to determine the criteria of functionality, flexibility, and
modularity in the determined small spaces and to examine the effects of the sense of belonging and privacy of the users in
these spaces. Examples of small-scale living spaces were identified and the design criteria of these living spaces were
evaluated based on the subject that constitutes the limitation of the study. The assessments are based on the archives, literature,
and scientific publications. Determinations were made to meet the requirements determined as a result of the analysis. In the
sample spaces examined within the framework of small-scale living spaces, the requirements of the design in line with the user
requirements are presented in bullet points and the idea of developing a different living model is examined.
