Abstract

Since the automobile industry progressed through different phases, auto racing branch of it became the most 
popular sport in the world. Thus, regarding to safety necessity on high speeds, impact attenuators came into 
prominence by this way. Impact attenuators have to achieve two safety goals; they have to diminish the initial 
impact force and distribute the related force, before it reaches the vehicle’s passengers. In this study, alternative 
impact attenuator production methodologies such as sandwich structures, honeycomb structures, and effect 
of alternative materials on production structures such as aluminum, carbon, Rohacell foam etc. are evaluated.
