Abstract

Abstract - Hydrothermal co–gasification, one of the energy technologies, was carried out at 500 °C in a batch reactor with a mixture of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and sorghum at different water volumes, and KCl was used as catalyst. The initial water volume with the highest total gas conversion was determined, and high–density polyethylene was added to the mixture. The new ternary mixture (HDPE/PET /sorghum) was gasified at different temperatures and water volumes, and the results re evaluated. The data showed that escalating the volume of water and temperature significantly increased the H2 yield in hydrothermal co–gasification, considering the total gas production. The gas production obtained from the experiments were analyzed by Gas Chromatography and the liquid fractions were analyzed by GC–MS. Among the experimental combinations of the bi–plastic (HDPE/PET)/ biomass (sorghum) mixture in presence of KCl catalyst, the highest hydrogen yield was obtained at 500 °C with 25 mL water volume as 15.8 (±0.2) mol H2/kg feed.
