ÇUKUROVA INTERNATIONAL AGRICULTURE AND TOURISM CONGRESS, Adana, Türkiye, 3 - 05 Ekim 2025, cilt.1, ss.15-23, (Tam Metin Bildiri)
Climate change is one of the most important environmental problems affecting ecosystems,
economic structures and social life on a global scale. The effects of climate change are
increasing rapidly over the years. Due to the impact of climate change, extreme weather
events such as floods, droughts and storms have become more frequent and severe since the
beginning of the twenty-first century, causing more property and life losses every year in
many countries. As a result of human activities increasing greenhouse gas emissions and
strengthening the natural greenhouse effect, changes such as an increase in the average
surface temperature of the earth, a decrease in precipitation, extremely hot days, and shifts in
seasons affect all sectors, especially the agricultural sector. The effects of this change are felt
especially on water resources, food security and the agricultural sector. Agreements carried
out at the international level are the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate
Change (UNFCCC), The Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement aim to reduce greenhouse
gas emissions and increase adaptation capacity. The agricultural sector has a priority position
within the scope of these agreements, as it is one of the areas that both causes and is most
affected by climate change. In this review, the basic principles and development process of
international agreements on climate change are discussed, and then adaptation strategies to
climate change in the agricultural sector are discussed. The aim is to provide policy and
practice recommendations that can guide sustainable agricultural practices on a global and
national scale.
