Abstract

Fresh consume of sour cherry is too low and, in particular, it is a raw material which is commonly used for fruit processing industry. It has been emphasised that harvest is the limiting factor in economical sour cherry production such as other fruits in Turkiye. Therefore, increasing demand of fruit processing industry and harvesting of sour cherry within agro-technically optimal periods has resulted in a need for development of quick and less expensive harvesting procedures. This research performed on sour cherry can be applied for sour cherry fruits. In this study, effect of ethrel application as a growth regulator, frequency, amplitude and shaking duration on both attachment strength and percent fruit dropping were investigated for mechanical harvest. According to the results, fruit-stalk attachment strength decreased to 2 N in full ripening. Therefore, effective fruit pouring of 78% can be reached by using a shaker, which can improve frequency of 10 Hz and amplitude of 20 mm without ethrel.
