In this study, an attempt was made to combine the domestic strawberry cultivars 'Sevgi,' 'Ebru,' and 'Kaska' with the foreign cultivars 'Fortuna,' 'Sabrosa,' and 'Albion' by making use of cross-breeding methods. Superior strawberry variety candidates with the desired attributes were selected during two growing seasons. According to the results of weighted ranked testing, 4066 progenies were gradually reduced to 229 (first year) and eventually to 13 (second year). The main objective of the study was to determine the effect of cultivars and their progeny (13 hybrid lines) on polyphenol content, which is important for human health and the color quality of fruit. As a result, it was observed that genotype had a strong effect on all parameters. However, one genotype did not perform well enough to meet the expectations in terms of all parameters. As observed in previous studies, research on genetics and breeding is important to more fully understand the polyphenol content of strawberry fruits.
