Özet

Walnut (Juglans regia L.) is one of the most widely cultivated nut species worldwide due to its nutritional value, economic importance, and broad adaptability. Conventional selectionbased breeding methods are time-consuming and have limited effectiveness in species such as walnut, which has a long juvenile period. Therefore, molecular approaches aimed at identifying quantitative trait loci (QTL) offer a significant alternative to increase the efficiency of walnut breeding programs. This review examines research conducted on QTL analysis in walnut, the molecular marker systems used (SSR, SNP, GBS, etc.), and the chromosomal regions where QTLs associated with important agronomic traits—such as yield, harvest date, leafing time, shell strength, and lateral fruiting—have been identified. In addition, QTL-based breeding studies carried out in Türkiye and potential future applications are also discussed.
