Özet

In this study, the controlled demolition techniques used in our region and also the level of the related

studies are explained. Three main demolition techniques used in our region and in the world are mentioned.

While, two of these are traditional demolition techniques commonly used in demolition in Turkey, the other is a

controlled demolition study using explosives that are almost never used in our country. Deficiencies rela-ted to

controlled demolition have been reported. Recommendations have been made on what can be done to improve

progress in controlled demolition. In recent years, new methods have been started to investigate the rupture

mechanism and the interaction of the ruptured parts with the environment. The relatively new methods, the

discrete elements method and the applied elements method are used to specifically understand the destruc-tion

mechanism of large-scale structures. In this study, these methods are mentioned. Considering that there are hardly

any studies on this subject in our country, this paper could be of great utilize to proffessionals and researchers,

who intend to participate in the field of the progressive collapse of structures, and also to other experts who

require information about controlled demolition and up-to-date view of this topic in our region.
