Vocabulary
acquisition requires a great deal of collocational knowledge and competence.
This
requirement
is prevalent in first language acquisition, second language acquisition and foreign
language
learning as well. Foreign language learners with sufficient collocational
competence
can
convey their messages accurately and fluently in the target language. In
addition, since
collocations
are units which consist of a string of two or more than two words from
different
parts
of speech, language learners have the chance to master the lexical webs, their
associations
and
syntagmatic patterns in their oral and written production in the target
language. In this
respect,
this study primarily investigates grammatical collocations in the written texts
produced
by
A1 level Turkish foreign language learners of English who studied at Çukurova
University
School of Foreign Languages during the 2020-2021 academic year. The data were analyzed
through
AntConc 4.0.5 (Anthony, 2022) corpus analysis tool.
