Özet

Mothers undergo important bio-psychosocial changes during the postpartum period. During this period, mothers are expected to adapt to physiological and psychological changes, mothering role and acceptance of her baby mentally, gain necessary knowledge and skills to look after herself and the baby when she is back at home. Mothers try to cope with their care and problems they experience, and also struggle to maintain their daily activities and adapt to the new situation to satisfy their babies' requirements. Therefore, nurses should assess the health care needs of mothers in the postpartum period, facilitate their adaptation to motherhood role and help to reduce problems by providing necessary care and support. In this context, while nurses assess the mother, nurses should base their evaluations on a nursing model or theory providing a systematic approach. One of this models is the Living Model (Roper, Logan, Tierney).
