Compact omega-shaped metamaterials enabling bandwidth and isolation control in antennas

Özet
This study investigates the feasibility of using omega-shaped metamaterial (MTM) structures to improve the performance of various antennas such as monopole, cross-dipole, and microstrip patch antennas. The proposed metamaterial structure was validated through several simulations and experimental tests. In addition, constitutive parameters of the proposed designs were retrieved from the scattering parameters (S-parameters) using Nicolson-Ross Weir (NRW) method. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed structure affects gain, bandwidth, and return loss parameters. The design offered good performance in isolating two port antenna systems containing cross-dipoles, which can be utilized to adjust the beam width and reduce the antenna size. The proposed metamaterial structure offers the potential for improving the performance of different antennas, which can be applied in many fields, including satellite systems, intelligence satellites, and World Interoperability for Microwave Access.
