A REVIEW OF THE DOCTORAL DISSERTATION PERFORMED ON GYMNASTICS IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS IN TURKEY
Gymnastics is one of the most common sports in the world. When the studies in the literature are examined, it is reported that gymnastics is a sport that helps to gain physical, motoric and psychological competences which are necessary for many sports branches. The aim of this study isto examine the dissertations are performed on Gymnastics in Turkey. In this study, the subjects that the theses focus on were tried to be determined by content analysis method. Higher Education Institution (YÖK) National Thesis Center Database was used asdata source. When the distribution of doctoral dissertations according to universities is examined, it is seen that 21.05% (4) of theses are performed in Gazi University and 21.05% of theses are performed in Marmara University. Middle East Technical University, Ataturk University, Celal Bayar University, Ege University, Ankara University, Cukurova University, Hacettepe University, Abant Izzet Baysal University and Uludag University were studied once. When the distribution of doctoral theses examined by fields is examined, movement and training sciences (47.37%), psycho-social areas (26.32%), sports physiology (21.05%) and sports management (5.28%). As a result, the results obtained in the study show that nearly half of the doctoral theses in the gymnastics branch were conducted in Gazi University and Marmara University. The fact that there are so few doctoral theses in one of the main sports such as gymnastics can be seen as a negative finding of the study. In addition, the fact that no doctoral dissertationwas written on special groups such as disabled, elderly, pregnant, etc. It can be seen as another negative finding of the study. We believe that more and more comprehensive studies should be performed on issues such as increasing sport success, preservingthe health of athletes and disseminating and teaching gymnastics.
