Özet

This paper provides basic information on artificial reef projects in Iskenderun Bay. Fish assemblages at the first reef site were investigated in order to stimulate further research and present recommendations for management. All artificial reef blocks were hollow cubes made of concrete with iron reinforcements. Deployed was a total of 380 blocks (280 units of 3.4 m(3) and 100 units of 1 m(3)) in three different areas at depths between 18 and 27 m. Sampling periods were on a monthly basis from September 2008 to August 2010, using four units of trammelnet and gillnet fishing gear combined. A total of 53 fish species from 27 families were recorded; among the most abundant species were: Caranx crysos, Sauridaundos quamis, Solea solea, Pagellus erythrinus, Sparus aurata, Diplodus annularis, Diplodus sargus, Spicara flexuosa, Upeneus pori, Lithognathus mormyrus, Epinephelus aeneus and Epinephelus costae.
