Abstract

Hasan Sabri Ayvazov (1878-1938) was born in the Crimean city of Alupka, located on the borders of Russia. As a student of Ismail Gaspirali, he took part in the usul-i djedid tradition and emphasized the importance of language and religious unity in the unification of the Turkish world within the framework of Gaspirali's ideal of "Unity in language, work and opinion". Hasan Sabri, who was active in the Crimean-Tatar movement, was influential in various fields of activity such as the presidency of the parliament and the embassy, as well as his works written in the announcement and promotion of the activities of the movement. Therefore, he is not just a man of science, but an important figure who is closely interested in national and political issues. There are many books and pamphlets (risale) by Hasan Sabri in different fields such as history, literature, pedagogy, as well as translations and articles. His pamphlet usul-i Tadris ve Talim Tarbiye is the most remarkable work from the point of view of education. In this study, Hasan Sabri's views on religious education will be determined by using document analysis, which is one of the qualitative research techniques. Hasan Sabri stated that although "usul-i djedid" has been adopted in maktabs located in the Crimea for many years, the necessary progress has not been achieved, and that he wrote his pamphlet mainly for the purpose of finding a solution to this problem.
