The two-sided power distribution was defined by van Dorp and Kotz (2002) as a generalization of the triangular and power distributions. The non-standard form of the model, in which the support
is a bounded finite interval, has been shown to be a feasible alternative for the Laplace distribution. The focus of the study lies on the estimation of the model parameters for the doubly type II
censored samples. We propose a three-step procedure without any convergence problem to obtain maximum likelihood estimates of the parameters. Afterward, we give a Bayesian estimation
scheme for the shape parameter of the distribution. Then, the performance of the proposed estimation procedures is investigated by three different real data applications. The results show
that the proposed estimators are superior to the iterative computer implemented methods which use starting points.
