Abstract

This research was completed on the ‘Azman’ banana variety grown in productive greenhouses in Limonlu village, Erdemli county in Mersin province of Türkiye in the 2018–2019 and 2019–2020 growing seasons. Banana cultivation removes high amounts of plant nutrient elements from the soil and, as a result, conventional fertilizers are used excessively during plant development. Additionally, the uncontrolled use of conventional fertilizer may involve many risks in terms of health, such as increases in residue (nitrate, nitrite) content in fruit. Also, very high increases were observed for production costs to producers with the increasing fertilizer prices in recent times. Producers want to maintain quality, high-yield and lower cost production. In this research, the target was to reduce production costs to producers and to increase yield and quality of fruit with soil amelioration using natural fertilizers. In the study, the effects of banana waste, organic fertilizer, farm fertilizer, nematicide with ethoprophos active agent and conventional fertilizer applications on yield, impact on nitrate and nitrite accumulation in fruit and effects on nematode density, the main pest of the banana plant, in roots and soil were determined. According to the research results, in both growing seasons the highest yield for bunch weight (kg), finger weight (g), finger diameter (mm), and finger length (cm) was obtained from the sixth application using the combination of Novatec+Mocap+farm fertilizer. Plants with ethoprophos and farm fertilizer applied provided the best results for the lowest density of nematodes during measurements in September in both growing seasons. The best results were obtained from the second application (Novatec+ethoprophos) and sixth application (Novatec+ethoprophos+farm fertilizer). Residue content in fruit (nitrate, nitrite) were lowest in both growing seasons for plants administered the third application of Novatec+farm fertilizer.
