Background: The comparative efficacy of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and serotonin-norepmephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) was recently debated. Meta-analyses, based mainly on fluoxetine comparator data, suggest that the SNRI venlafaxine has superior efficacy to SSRIs in treatment of major depression.
