The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is fundamentally reshaping the news media landscape. AI-supported automation, driven by Natural Language Generation (NLG), introduces new methods and possibilities for journalism, while compelling us to question the interconnectivity of media, communication, and culture with AI. As functions become automated, the relationship between technology and cultural practices demands comprehensive research. This book investigates the often-overlooked profound linguistic and socio-cultural impacts of this shift. Using mixed-methods fieldwork on "automated news media," it explores how news coverage, readers, and field journalists perceive and accept AI technologies. Addressing the subject by relating it to theories concerning Human-Machine Communication (HMC), the automatization of professional routines, and societal automatization, the book provides current findings for journalists, media organisations, and policymakers during the inevitable evolution toward the "automated society."
