Karahanlı Türkçesi eserlerinden olan Kutadgu Bilig'in karşılaştırmalı metin yayını 1947 yılında Reşit Rahmeti Arat'ça yapılmıştır. Arat metninde 373 numaralı beyitte geçen çergüçi ve çergüle kelimelerinin anlamları için Arat, 1959'da yayımladığı Kutadgu Bilig çeviri cildinde herhangi bir karşılık vermemiştir. Çeviride de kelimeler metinde geçtiği şekliyle verilmiştir. Kutadgu Bilig üzerine çalışan diğer araştırmacılar da bu beyitteki çergüçi ve çergüle kelimelerini sorun olarak tartışmışlardır. Kelimelerin anlamı ve yapısı üzerine kesin bir açıklama bulunmamaktadır. Bu makale, bu kelimelerin yapısının ve anlamının dönemin diğer eseri Divanü Lügati 't-Türk'''ten yararlanılarak çözülebileceğini ortaya koymaktadır. Kelimelerin çözümlenmesi için tarihi ve çağdaş Türk lehçelerine de başvurulmuştur. Kutadgu Bilig'deki çergüçi ve çergüle kelimelerinin çertil- ve çert- fiilleri ile ilişkilendirilebileceği gösterilmiştir.
The critical edition of Kutadgu Bilig, which is one of the works of Karakhanid Turkish period, was published by Reşit Rahmeti Arat in 1947. Arat didn't explain the meaning of the words "çergüçi" and "çergüle" in distich 373 in the translation volume of Kutadgu Bilig, which was published in 1959. In the translation these words are mentioned in the original way, which take part in the text too. The other researchers who study on Kutadgu Bilig, have discussed the words "çergüçi" and "çergüle" in this distich as a problem. There is no exact explanation about the meaning and structure of the words. This article puts forward the argument which the structure and meaning of these words can be explained with the help of the other work of this period Divanü Lügati't -Türk. The historical and contemporary Turkish dialects can be applied to explain the meaning of the words too. In this article it is indicated that a connection between the words "çergüçi" and "çergüle" in Kutadgu Bilig with the verbs "çertil-" and "çert-" can be established.
