4th International Strawberry Symposium, Tampere, Finlandiya, 9 - 14 Temmuz 2000, ss.235-237
The ability to count chromosomes has long been a valuable tool for plant breeders and cytogeneticists. This work is very difficult with strawberries (Fragaria auanassa, Duch) since the chromosomes are extremely small, frequently having only a few cell divisions visible in a single root tip. Meiotic analysis sometimes are more successful but requires plants at the flowering stage. The aim of this work is to determine the Ottoman and candidates cv chromosome numbers which were determined from root tips with Feulgen and acetocarmine staining methods. According to these methods Ottoman and 477/2 and 477/3 cv candidates chromosome numbers were found to be 2n=56 and aneuploidy were observed in some cells.
