The Coruh River is one of the most important rivers in northeastern Turkey. Preliminary studies to determine the energy potential of this river resulted in the selection of eleven potential dam sites. The presence of large landslides at some of the sites has led to modifications to the initial proposals; for instance the Ispir dam was abandoned and replaced with the Norgah scheme upstream of the landslides. Similarly, the proposed location of the Uzumlu dam site was abandoned and a new dam site was proposed upstream of the landslide. The Havuzlu and Demirkent landslides have been investigated to assess their possible influence on the Inanli and Yusufeli dam sites.
