Abstract

The magnetic properties and magnetocaloric effect (MCE) of Nd0.2Gd0.8Mn2Ge2 compound were studied by means of X-ray diffraction and magnetization measurements. The sample was prepared by arc-melting. The compound crystallizes in the tetragonal ThCr2Si2-type structure with a I4/mmm space group. Reentrant ferrimagnetism is observed for the sample. The compensation point has been observed at 82 K. The maximum magnetic entropy change vertical bar Delta Smax vertical bar of Nd0.8Gd0.2Mn2Ge2 is 0.812 J kg(-1) K-1 for a field change of 0-1 T.
