Her gruba kamu spotu izletilerek çalışmanın amacı kapsamında sorular yöneltilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonunda izlerkitle tarafından kamu spotundaki şiddet temasının yarattığı anlamlara ulaşılmıştır. İki farklı homojen gruptan oluşan odak grupların aynı mesaja ilişkin alternatif okuma yapabildikleri gözlemlenmiştir.

This study aims to reveal how messages in the television and online devices are perceived rather than investigating the content of messages regarding women and violence in the sense of Public Service Announcements(PSA) among many others in the media. Of all the media-based studies by feminist theory and feminist researchers, reception studies hold a prominent place. Hall (2005) states that “circulation and reception are moments of production process in television, and they are reintroduced into the production process through a number of structured and mediated feedback.” In this study, how the audience perceives the content of media has been examined via a method in accordance with Stuart Hall’s theory. Reception analysis considers the audience as a compilation of differences formed by plenty of experiences rather than regarding it as a homogenous whole. For this audience-based study, purposeful sampling was employed to select ‘8 March & 8 Women’ (2013) as the PSA to be examined due to the fact that it places women as the main object of violence. This research studies the meaning that violence against women—not in the real world, but in the fictional one—creates in the minds of viewers, and the dissemination of violence through use of media. Data collection has been realized with two separate focus group study. Each group was supposed to answer several questions in accordance with the aim of this study after watching the PSA. At the end of the research, meanings created in the minds of viewers by the theme of violence in the PSA were determined. Consisting two different homogenous groups, focus groups were identified to attribute different meanings to the same message.
