Abstract

In the present study, samples from aborted cattle, sheep and goat fetuses were analysed to detect the presence of Chlamydophila abortus and Coxiella burnetii by Real Time PCR in Adana province. In the study, a total of 217 aborted cattle (n: 91), sheep (n: 80) and goat (n: 46) fetuses were investigated. According to Real Time PCR method, 16 (17.6%) of cattle, 18 (22.5%) of sheep and 12 (26.1%) of goats were found to be positive for C. abortus. The number of PCR positive samples of C. burnetii were determined as 5 (6.9%) in cattle, 1 in sheep (2.2%), and 7 (18.9%) in goats. In conclusion, the presence of C. abortus and C. burnetii in cattle, sheep and goat abortions in Adana province was revealed in this study. It has been concluded that C. abortus and C. burnetii should be taken into consideration in combating abortion cases in the region.
