Proje Özeti

Natural disasters and emergencies are a harsh reality faced by many communities around the world. To mitigate the negative impacts of these events, well-designed and resilient emergency architecture is essential. EMERGE project focuses on developing a graduate programme proposal in emergency architecture to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop effective and practical solutions to disaster challenges. Emergency architecture is a field that seeks to design and plan for disaster resilience, recovery, and reconstruction. The literature on emergency architecture is extensive and covers a range of topics, including urban design, urban planning, hazard mitigation, community engagement, and disaster planning. One of the key necessities for emergency architecture is the successful implementation of interdisciplinary approaches. Many studies have emphasized the need for collaboration between architects, planners, engineers, and emergency management officials to design and plan for disaster resilience effectively. From this  perspective, the primary objectives of the proposed programme include providing students with a comprehensive understanding of emergency architecture and disaster-resilient design, as well as basic skills and knowledge to design/construct emergency shelters, make effective evacuation plans, and use technology in emergency situations through the examination of case studies in specific emergency architecture projects. In addition, the programme aims to promote sustainable and resilient design practices that can help communities better prepare for and respond to disasters. The proposed programme is aimed at filling the gaps in the academic world by providing a comprehensive understanding of the field of emergency architecture, including disaster resilient design, emergency shelters, evacuation planning, temporary measures and the use of technology in emergency situations.
