Abstract:

This thesis aims to follow the logic and the developing of defending fact in Anatolian settlements from Neolithic to Late Bronze age. In this context, while the settlements are examined one by one, it is also discussed how the issues as regional characteristics and environmental conditions figured in the formation of defending system. To answer some questions, such as ?Why did ancient people build fortification systems ?? or ?Did these fortifications really build to defend the settlement ??, is the main aim of first chapter of this study.In the following chapter, it is aimed to assign how the materials with the technical intelligences changing among different centers and defending systems that began to be in order gradually in course of time, came out over the defending system.Finally, it will be underlined how the changing balances in Anatolia made contributions to the fortification architecture. In this context, we will follow the defending systems of some Hittite towns, as Hattu?a, the capital of Hittite Kingdom which was an essential power and expanded over a large area in Anatolia in Late Bronze age, and other important Hittite towns, and we will discuss their contributions to the Anatolian architecture.
