Abstract:

The most basic need of living things is water. Today, undrinkable/unusable water is made drinkable/usable by being subjected to processes in wastewater treatment plants. Wastewater treatment facilities are in the very hazardous class according to the Workplace Hazard Classes Communiqué on Occupational Health and Safety. If necessary precautions are not taken in these facilities, serious occupational accidents may occur and various diseases may occur among employees. Therefore, first of all hazards must be identified, risk assessments must be made and safe working environments must be provided for employees in these facilities. In this study, the hazards and risks in the Adana ASKI Seyhan Wastewater Treatment Plant were determined on both health and safety basis. The risk assessment was carried out according to the L-type matrix method in order to determine whether the working environment and equipment are safe, whether what the new measures are. High-level risks identified in the facility include fire, electric shock, work accidents, falling into the pool, poisoning, and methane gas explosion. Digester tanks, facility general, workshops, transformer building, gas desulfurization unit, gas generator and boiler unit, service water pump unit have been identified as high-risk sections and equipment. With a number of corrective and preventive actions, both high level risks and medium level risks identified within the facility have been transformed into low risk level.
